MIDNIGHT DIVIDE TALKING

Finding an indie-rock band of quality can be quite a task in the current modern scene, but listening to ‘Talking’ from Los Angeles band Midnight Divide, you know that this three-piece belong to that special small percentage. Taking the slow, steady and spot-on approach, this Cali outfit took a year to follow up on their debut EP, Embrace The Wave, which had plenty of Everything Everything, Franz Ferdinand and Red Hot Chilli Peppers vibes. Moving even further into pop territory with this new arrival, the track is punctuated with space-age key melodies, bright synths and carefree “do-do-do”s. However, it’s clear that rock still makes up the bulk of Midnight Divide’s sound, particular in the sections with struck cymbals from Sab Cahrunas, riding bass lines from Jace McPartland and those soaring vocal licks from charismatic founding front-man Austen Moret. In light of this addictive indie-rock tune, it will be particularly interesting to hear what else this trio has been up to over this past year. - HT
